NaPoWrMo...Let's Write! - Diamante

Let's write! A Diamante poem consists of 7 lines in an exact format:

Line 1 -  1 noun
Line 2 -  2 adjectives
Line 3 -  3 verbs
Line 4 -  2 words describing the noun, two words that are opposite
Line 5 -  3 words describing the ending noun
Line 6 -  2 verbs describing the ending noun
Line 7 -  1 noun opposite the first one

You can write about any person, place, thing, or idea you want. If you ever wanted to write a poem, but weren't sure how to get started, this would be a great place. So...what are you waiting for? Let's write!

4.11

it would hurt
to be the last woman standing
in this place that God
seems to have forgotten
one day
I’m gonna open the door
and walk out
doesn’t matter
if the door closes back
or not

4.14.2 Palindrome

beauty of
revelation
changing rhythms and distinctive beats
washing away worries
word and time
poetry
time and word
worries away washing
beats distinctive and rhythms changing
revelation
of beauty

Monday 4.4

I go wherever my ink leads
and write
for love
for peace
I write to bring light
into dark places
so others can see.

Rock

A rock that has no beauty
still serves a purpose.
It holds down the corner of my beach blanket
while I sit and think.

Travel

Two women waited at a bus stand
The young one wanted to go to Canada
The older one dreamed of New York
The young one said "This place has nothing to offer me, it's a dead end"
The older one agreed as the young one boarded the Bayfield bus
And she went back to Spieghtstown
Still dreaming of New York
I hope they both find destination and destiny
Waiting at the end of the line.

Life...matters

All life matters
from conception
to the grave
no matter what color
language
affirmation
education
affiliation
or ethnicity
if it lives and breathes
it matters
if it's alive
who is anyone to kill
or to pick and choose
which one is superior
or inferior
or civilized
or has the right to life
listen to what you are saying
look at the signs you carry
the causes you march for
if you say all life matters
you can't pick and choose
whose life you save

3-21-15

it’s hard to believe
and convince others to hold on
when everywhere I look there is corruption dishonesty and compromise
preachers stealing and sleeping with other men’s wives
miserable families
and hungry children sitting on the church pews
people living in bondage that no one can see
the elders turn a blind eye and don’t have time to care
what would Jesus say if he were to walk into your church today
what would be your excuse when he asks “Where were you?”
because every time you ignore the hurt and pain of another
you crucify him again
we cannot continue in this way
walking in hypocrisy
coming into the sanctuary to be entertained
with no real intentions
it’s time to look up and stop playing
in case you haven’t noticed the last days are not upon us they are already here
the faithful falling away
going the way of Illuminati Babylon
prophetic words turning into crooked motivational speech
money raising and Go Fund my jet
and let me fly up and away
so what if your rent is past due
don’t ask me to help you
it’s hard to believe
when all of these things go on daily
but God hasn’t changed
He knows who belongs to Him
just make sure that you are not found outside
when the rain starts to fall
the old people used to say there will be no place to hide
so make your calling and election sure
and don’t give up
no matter what you see.

soul traveling

if soul traveling is real
i want to take that journey on a one-way ticket
see the earth from sky view and dance among the planets
weightless and unrestricted by the gravitational pull of land
i want to escape these limitations
and live like I was meant to
because caged birds can sing but they can’t soar with clipped wings
so if soul traveling is real
i will fly

Shalom

fugue and variation
haystacks shrouded within impressionist fog
move to this
spiccato cello against the violinist’s bow
breathe here
in harmony with nature’s dance
freedom of vision on the downbeat
creating beautiful chaos
floating above an invisible melody
like colors of the spectrum
melting with increasing intensity

I Want My Poetry to...

I want my poetry to take you on an unexpected journey
on a weightless flight
where there is no room for slow moving souls
who have no destination
so follow me.
I want my poetry to be your traveling companion
where the only music playing
is the sound of urban air rising from beneath your feet
as you listen
so dance with me.
And when this voyage is over
I want my poetry to leave you
wanting to write your own story
before the dust settles on this path
for others to follow
after you have walked with me.

Today , , ,

Today . . .
I will remember you
I will open my journal
I will write about you
I will get distracted
I will write about something else
I will get bored
I will go back to writing about you
I will cry
I will get angry
I will rip the pages from my book and throw them away
I will call you
I will let the phone ring
I will say nothing when you answer
I will hang up
I will take a walk in the rain
I will think of you
I will go back to my journal
I will write about you
I will save it this time

Healer

It hasn't stopped yet
this bleeding from my weakened soul
with no feminine products in sight
no one offers a bath
they would rather watch  me drown
as I drag myself to touch the hem of His garment
I am invisible to the rest of the world
who turns a blind eye to me
reaching out to the shadow of the Almighty
who knows my name
and never forgets every detail of my life
even though the dust has covered the road
that I have walked many times over
trying to find relief
and He says:
“Go and be made whole”.

I know
if I could fly
truly I would escape
to places where no one has dared
to dream…

Heart of a Woman (For Maya Angelou)

On Friday
for only $1
she called to me through her book
sitting on the shelf  alive waiting to be heard
what a price for such wisdom
On Monday
I heard her message
through the pages of her story
amazed and intrigued
leaving the book resting on a red pillow
not knowing that on Wednesday
she would be gone
and although we never met
I’m glad she spoke to me all the way to page 106
and I listened

bring back our girls

bring back our girls
lives that cannot be thrown away
tossed out like garbage
like unripe fruit
picked before its time
flowers that never had a chance to bloom
bring them back
so they can flourish
they need the chance to breathe
and not inhale the foulness of old men’s breath
or feel unclean hands
and hear words not meant for their ears
bring our girls back
they are not just our future
but our present
their presence matters
to somebody
even if not to you
find them
like precious jewels in Nigerian caves of
aquamarine
emerald
amethyst
garnet
tourmaline
topaz
zircon
and sapphire
search for them
they are wondering
they are waiting
hoping
praying
crying
wailing
for someone to come to their rescue
please
