Rock

A rock that has no beauty
still serves a purpose.
It holds down the corner of my beach blanket
while I sit and think.

Wisdom From an Old Woman in a Window

scattered hopes

and shattered dreams

her life passing before her

in milliseconds

remembering time wasted

on worthlessness

too many tasks left undone

and hopeless regrets

if she could do it all again

it would be different

no one would distract or discourage her

or take her off the path

she would stand up

and speak up

even if they didn’t respect or support

or validate her purpose

exchanging her life for theirs

and watching them all prosper and proliferate

at her expense

if you and she were to ever meet

she would tell you

to live your life

sing your own song

and dreams are never too big

they just need to be relocated

don’t stay too long

and don’t leave too soon

always have $20 hidden someplace

where no one else can find it

and always find time to pray

before sunrise

watch your friends

and let God watch your enemies

because sometimes they are identical twins

follow your heart

and listen to what it tells you

because it will never lie

drink half your weight in water every day

and fast every once in a while

to keep your soul balanced

be kind to stay cats

they keep the mice in check

and dance in the rain

when it pours

the grass is green on your side too

and it grows faster when you don’t stand on it

be grateful for small things

and put big things in their place

learn from your mistakes

without repeating them

and most of all

find another young one

and teach her how to be

the best that she can become

because of what you learned from me. . .

News...

High winds and storms blow through the northeast again with no end in sight…while hundreds of people run for cover out of the path of the howling torrents, huddled in fear…the ozone layer experiences record loss and the sun will scorch the earth’s atmosphere after Japan’s ocean radiation hits 7.5, the legal limit... as the crafty photographers show off nature’s secrets… somebody please run and tell them to  hurry and take all of the pictures they can because those secrets are quickly becoming copywritten history…and somewhere else a woman can no longer swim in her pool since the city condemned it but she still has to pay the taxes … Marvin sang a song for all times, way before time ran out for him…and the music continues to play on from vinyl to 8-track to cassette to CD to Mp3…Mercy Mercy Me, The Ecology…

Growing Pains..palindrome

Angry feeling

spiraling downwards towards

moments of cycling viciously

spent wasting time remembering

past pains held inside …

her rejected neglected teenager still unloved

misunderstood sometimes motherless child crying running fast

forgetting and growing into drama and

womanhood without

Father

without womanhood

and drama into growing and forgetting

fast running crying child motherless sometimes misunderstood

unloved still teenager neglected rejected her

inside held pains past…

remembering time wasting spent

viciously cycling of moments

towards downwards spiraling

feeling Angry

untitled

i grieved
as my life passed before me
my world turning into the deluge of Katrina’s torrents
imagining myself floating perilously away by disaster down Canal street
overtaken by the waters of death
never to be seen again

i grieved
as i passed through overturned graves
deceased dreams
decaying remains
and disintegrated souls

i grieved
as i stepped over broken hearts
shattered bodies
devastated minds
moving towards annihilation
mutilated and scarred beyond recognition…

but i survived

Day #7

Awakening
on the eve of something better…
an old thing always passes away
as we cry and grieve what was
bury the dead
and scatter the ashes
we come to realize that what we really miss
was what we only thought we had
and bask in the memories of an illusion
filled with created imagery
and crafted lunacy
finally reality sheds light
and we see the truth about ourselves and others
and learn that we deserve more.
selah…

Remote…

IF I could control my life with a remote…
I would turn back the time and erase all of the haunting memories that worry my soul
and turn on all of the colors of the world that would shine brightly throughout the day
lighting the stars at night in tune with the music of the moon.
If I could control my life with a remote…I would turn off every voice of indifference,
every act of violence,
and all hypocrisy, sickness, pollution and greed.
If i could control my life with a remote…there would be only You and me.

R.S.V.P.

after 20 years away from you  i find that i have missed...
absolutely nothing
should i be surprised that the world i left still revolves around
the same meaningless mindless activity
but let’s get past all of that
since we last walked out of those iron gates never to look back
with big plans of becoming the next leaders of the modern world
a revolutionary takeover
or to at least have a street named after our firstborn in winter
i wonder what would have happened if the plans we made really came to fruition
and were more than just talk to impress whomever we thought was passing by listening to us rant and rave
when all they were really doing was taking the short cut to the water fountain...
now hear this
20 years later it’s all starting to look the same
time has passed although much has changed
with life slightly balding and turning gray around the edges
things didn’t exactly turn out the way any of us expected
and so after 20 years of absentia
i am certain that i have missed absolutely nothing
